The Inter-American Insurance Company of Illinois was an insurer licensed to operate in 44 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The company accepted reinsurance on ordinary life coverages and offered individual and group life as well as health and annuity policies on a direct basis. Its ordinary life portfolio included universal life and interest-sensitive whole life products.
In October 1991, the company was placed in a period of rehabilitation, and two months later a liquidation order was issued. The state life and health insurance guaranty associations helped arrange for Jackson National Life Insurance Company to assume all the company’s policies (see below).
