Assessable Premium Exhibit Resources

NOLHGA has developed this comprehensive resource site to support insurance companies in accurately completing their Life, Health & Annuity Guaranty Association Premium Exhibits.

Purpose of the Premium Exhibit

The provisions of state life and health insurance guaranty association laws generally require that assessments be calculated using premiums received by member companies on covered policies and contracts and exclude from the assessment calculation premiums received by the companies on policies or contracts NOT covered by guaranty association. Premiums reported on Schedule T and elsewhere in the companies’ annual statements may be higher, or lower than the amount that should be used by a state life and health insurance guaranty association when calculating assessments.

The Premium Exhibit captures the adjustments to Schedule T premiums needed to arrive at the correct amounts to be used for assessment calculations pursuant to each state guaranty association law. The Premium Exhibit and its related NAIC Instructions guide the member company through the steps needed to calculate assessable premiums by life, health, allocated annuity, and unallocated annuity accounts, based on the covered and uncovered policies and contracts in each state.

By properly completing the Premium Exhibit, insurance companies ensure that their assessments are calculated with precision and fairness.

WhICH COMPANIES Must File the Premium Exhibit

All insurance companies that are members of a state life and health insurance guaranty association are required to file the Premium Exhibit for that state, including

  • Health Blank filers licensed to do business in a state that includes Health Maintenance Organizations and other types of health insurers (Managed Care Organizations, Health Care Service Contractors, etc.) as members of the state’s guaranty association.
  • Property Blank filers licensed to do business in a state where the company has a health/disability line of business on its Certificate of Authority to operate in that state.

If you are unsure whether your company is a member of the guaranty association in a state where the company is licensed to do business, please check with that association:
