Former NOLHGA Chair Jim Mumford Passes Away

Jim Mumford, Chair of the NOLHGA Board of Directors from 2003–2004 and a driving force in efforts to modernize the guaranty system, passed away on September 14, 2015. He was 78.

Jim had recently retired from his post as First Deputy Insurance Commissioner of the Iowa Insurance Division. A graduate of Harvard Law, he began his career in the insurance industry in 1965, working for insurance companies (including Equitable Life Insurance Company of Iowa and ING Americas) and in private practice. He became Of Counsel with the Nyemaster, Goode, West, Hansell & O’Brien law firm in Des Moines, Iowa, in 2003.

In addition to his time as NOLHGA Chair, Jim also served on NOLHGA’s Legal, Audit, and Financial Services Modernization Committees and co-chaired the Guaranty System Modernization Task Force.
