
Nichols, Sullivan Join NOLHGA Annual Meeting Speaker Lineup
Former NAIC President George Nichols III and current Texas Insurance Commissioner Kent Sullivan have agreed to speak at NOLHGA’s 2019 Annual Meeting, which will be held on October 10–11 at the Fairmont Austin in Austin, Texas. Nichols, who serves as the President and CEO of The American College of Financial Services, will join in a discussion with fellow former NAIC President Julie Mix McPeak, and Commissioner Sullivan will provide welcome remarks to our meeting attendees.
The program will also feature presentations on long-term care, the health insurance marketplace, and corporate division/insurance business transfer legislation. Speakers include:

- Aaron Ball: Senior Vice President, LTC Solutions, Worksite & IDI, New York Life Insurance Company
- Richard P. Bowman: Associate General Counsel, New York Life Insurance Company
- Michael Gugig: Vice President of State Government Relations and Associate General Counsel, Transamerica
It has come to our attention that some people have made reservations at the Fairmont Austin but have not yet registered for the meeting. Please note that attendees must register through the meeting website to attend the meeting. Guests can also make hotel reservations on the site.
Registration for the Annual Meeting is $650 for members and $775 for non-members; the $125 guest fee includes the Welcome Reception on October 9, the Annual Meeting Luncheon and Dinner (both on October 10), and breakfast on October 11. There is no fee to attend the MPC meeting on October 9, but please note that some of the MPC and Annual Meeting presentations may be restricted to guaranty association members only.
NOLHGA has secured a room rate for the meeting of $299/night plus tax. The deadline to receive the special NOLHGA rate is September 17. We encourage attendees to register and make their hotel reservations as soon as possible.

On September 3, 2019, the Guaranty Association Benefits Company (GABC) received an $8 million distribution representing the remaining funds of the litigation holdback retained by the ELNY estate at closing. Under the terms of the “Acknowledgement in Connection with the Closing,” any funds remaining in the litigation holdback would be distributed to GABC promptly after August 8, 2019, which represents the six-year anniversary of the closing. The funds will be allocated within the GABC accounts for benefit payments to policyholders.
