Annual Meeting Hotel Block Filled--New Accommodations Available
Due to overwhelming interest in NOLHGA's 25th Annual Meeting, all rooms in the NOLHGA room block at the Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, have been reserved. As a result, NOLHGA is making arrangements for alternative accommodations for the meeting. Anyone planning to attend the Annual Meeting who has not yet booked a room should contact De Gadd at 703.787.4121 or [email protected] for help in making hotel reservations.
NOLHGA also urges all attendees who have not yet registered to register for the meeting as soon as possible and to make their travel plans, since flights into and out of Jackson Hole are filling up rapidly.

Staff Contact -GA Board Member Panel Scheduled for First Day of Annual Meeting
A panel of past and present guaranty association Board Chairs (and NOLHGA Board Chairs) will discuss the past and future of the guaranty association system at NOLHGA's 25th Annual Meeting in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The discussion is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on October 7, the first day of the meeting.
The panelists will discuss the origins of the guaranty system and NOLHGA, the major challenges the system has faced, current threats to the system, possible changes the system might undergo in the future, and other matters. The panel, which will be moderated by Joseph Morris of the Chicago law firm Morris & De La Rosa, will include William B. Fisher, formerly Corporate Vice President & Associate General Counsel with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company; Douglas M. Goto, Executive Vice President, Finance & Administration with Pacific Guardian Life Insurance Company; Roger F. Harbin, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of Symetra Financial Corporation; and Nicholas D. Latrenta, Senior Chief Counsel of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.

The NAIC's Fall National Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, September 21, through Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at the Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The agenda for the meeting is posted on the NAIC Web site and includes scheduled sessions for the Financial Condition (E) Committee; the Receivership and Insolvency Task Force (RITF); and their respective working groups, including the Receivership Model Act Revision Working Group (MARG), the Restructuring Mechanisms for Troubled Companies (E) Subgroup (RMTC), and the Accounting Practices and Procedures (E) Task Force "Blanks" Working Group.
Highlights of these sessions will include:
- A one-hour educational session on Medicare Parts C and D, to be presented during the MARG meeting (scheduled for September 22 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.)
- An informational presentation on "Schemes of Arrangement" as an alternative to liquidation for troubled companies abroad, to be presented during the RMTC meeting (scheduled for September 22 from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m.)
The NAIC's Financial Regulation Standards and Accreditation (F) Committee is also scheduled to meet to discuss accreditation guidance for "non-substantive" items, issues and standards relating to captive insurers, and 2009 charges. Though not on the agenda for this meeting, it should be noted that the comment and exposure period continues for proposed changes to incorporate IRMA (the NAIC's most recent receivership model) into the receivership law standards. Comments will be accepted through December 31.
