January 2012 MPC Meeting Site Goes Live

The Web page for the January 2012 MPC meeting in Orlando is now live. The page offers hotel and meeting information as well as online registration and hotel reservations.

The meeting will be held on January 9-11 at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress. Orlando is a popular destination, so we encourage you to register and make your hotel reservations as early as possible. Also, the special NOLHGA room rate of $159/night plus tax is available three days before and three days after the meeting (depending on room availability), for those wishing to extend their stay. We expect that task force meetings will be held January 9 and 10, with the MPC General Session taking place the morning of January 11. A preliminary schedule for the meeting will be posted in late November.

If you have any trouble accessing the meeting Web page, please contact Dan Hicks at [email protected] or 703.787.4112. If you have any questions about the meeting, contact Sean McKenna at [email protected] or 703.787.4106.

MPC Security Training Program Now Available

The online security training program developed by the MPC's Security Advisory Committee to provide guidance to guaranty system representatives on safeguarding confidential personal information (CPI) of policyholders consistent with the MPC Security Procedures is now available on the NOLHGA Web site.

The MPC Security Procedures provide that all guaranty system representatives (i.e., representatives of guaranty associations, NOLHGA, and outside consultants) take the training program if they will have access to CPI in multi-state insolvencies. If you fall into one of these groups, please be sure to complete the training program by year-end. Guaranty association administrators should also arrange for members of their staff, board of directors, and outside consultants to take the training program by year-end if they will be authorized to have access to CPI on behalf of the association.

You will need Adobe Flash Player to use the online training program. You can use this link to download Flash or to update the version of Flash currently on your computer.

You can access the training program by logging in to the NOLHGA Web site, clicking on the MPC menu heading, and selecting MPC Security Procedures and then MPC Security Procedures Training Program. If you need to complete the program but do not have a password to the site, please contact Kenny Bullock at [email protected].

The training program has seven segments, which can be accessed by using the tabs that run across the top of the screen. You can navigate through each segment using the arrows at the bottom of the screen. Each segment ends with a quiz--these quizzes are not graded, but they are a valuable learning tool for users.

Before taking the quiz for the first segment, you must register so that a record can be created to show that you have completed the program. Online instructions will guide you through the registration process, which is quite easy and should only take a minute or two. The entire course should take about an hour to complete.

The Security Advisory Committee, chaired by Candie Kinch (Idaho) and Bill O'Sullivan (NOLHGA staff), will be distributing a form to guaranty association administrators so that they can confirm their association's staff, board members, and outside consultants who will be authorized to access CPI on behalf of the association. The committee will use this information to create the list of "authorized individuals" to be posted on NOLHGA's Web site.

If you have any questions about the training program, please contact Kenny Bullock at [email protected].
