
NOLHGA Board Welcomes New Chair & Members
Lee Douglass (Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield) was elected Chair of the NOLHGA Board of Directors at NOLHGA’s 32nd Annual Meeting in October 2015. Deborah Bello (Prudential Financial) was elected Vice Chair, Margaret M. (Peggy) Parker was elected Secretary, and Diana Marchesi (Transamerica Life Insurance Company) was elected Treasurer. The Board also welcomed two new members--Dennis Herchel (Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company) and Susan Voss (American Enterprise Group)--while Melody Jensen (Midland National Life Insurance Company) and George Nichols III (New York Life Insurance Company) stepped down from the Board after completing their terms. Bart Boles (Texas Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association) and Diana Marchesi were elected to their second three-year terms on the Board.
John Colpean (Michigan Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association) completed his third and final one-year term as Members’ Participation Council (MPC) Chair, and NOLHGA Chair Lee Douglass announced at the meeting that he has appointed Pamela E. Olsen, Esq. (Nebraska Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association) as the new MPC Chair. She will also serve on the NOLHGA Board.

The Members’ Participation Council (MPC) met in Baltimore on October 27, 2015. The Medical Savings Insurance Company (Indiana) and National Heritage Life Insurance Company (Delaware) Task Forces held meetings, and the MPC Executive Committee met as well.
In addition to the task force report below, the General Session featured a privileged, closed-session presentation by the Executive Life Insurance Company (California) Task Force. MPC Security Advisory Committee Co-Chair Bill O’Sullivan (NOLHGA) briefed attendees on the committee’s activities, and Coverage/Claims Committee Member Art Dummer (Utah) updated attendees on the progress being made by the committee’s Contingent Deferred Annuities Subgroup. NOLHGA President Peter Gallanis provided an update on financial services regulatory modernization, and MPC Chair John Colpean briefed attendees on MPC Executive Committee activity.
Staff Contact - Sean McKenna Medical Savings Insurance Company (Indiana)Task Force Chair Pamela E. Olsen, Esq. (Nebraska) reported that the Medical Savings estate’s closure, which had been partially deferred to provide time to conclude litigation involving the estate, was finalized on October 7, 2015. A final distribution will be sent to affected associations following resolution of an outstanding deposit issue, and the task force will begin compiling its “lessons learned” report.
