Eugene Scalia to Speak at NOLHGA’s 2016 Legal Seminar

Eugene Scalia, a partner with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, is the latest addition to the speaker program for NOLHGA’s 24th Legal Seminar. The seminar will be held on July 21–22, 2016, at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C., with an MPC meeting scheduled for July 19–20.

Scalia, who once worked for the U.S. Department of Labor, has made headlines as a private sector attorney by challenging financial regulations on behalf of his clients in the financial services industry. For example, he was the lead counsel on MetLife’s appeal of its SIFI designation by the Financial Stability Oversight Council. And in a 2015 comment letter to the U.S. Department of Labor, Scalia criticized the Department’s proposed “fiduciary rule” as “vastly overbroad and impermissible.” Although obviously he will not be sharing with us client confidences about pending cases, Scalia is expected to discuss legal and policy issues raised by legislative and regulatory steps taken in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis.
