Fineman to Speak at NOLHGA's 23rd Annual Meeting

Howard Fineman, national political reporter and commentator, will speak at the welcoming luncheon for NOLHGA's 23rd Annual Meeting, which will be held October 10 and 11, 2006, in Dana Point, Calif. An award-winning writer and commentator, Fineman is Newsweek's chief political correspondent, senior editor, and deputy Washington Bureau chief. He is also an NBC News analyst--contributing reports to NBC, MSNBC and CNBC--and a regular guest on the Imus in the Morning radio show. The author of scores of Newsweek cover stories, he has also published articles in The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The New Republic. His "Living Politics" column appears each week on the MSNBC.com and Newsweek.com Web sites.

Although Fineman now reports exclusively on television for NBC, he has appeared on most major news and public affairs programs, including Nightline, Face the Nation, Larry King Live, FOX News Sunday, Charlie Rose, and The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. He was a regular panelist on PBS's Washington Week in Review from 1983 to 1995 and on CNN's Capital Gang Sunday from 1995 to 1998.

NOLHGA's 23rd Annual Meeting will be hosted by the beautiful Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa, a four-diamond resort located on the cliffs of the Pacific coast. An MPC meeting will be held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting on October 9. NAIC Representatives to Provide Modernization Roadmap at Legal Seminar

Brett Palmer and Cheye Calvo of the NAIC's Government Affairs Office in Washington, D.C., have agreed to speak at NOLHGA's 14th Annual Legal Seminar. The NAIC's Washington office is responsible for, among other things, analysis of insurance-related legislative proposals and representation of NAIC members before state, federal, and international groups on insurance-related matters. Palmer, who heads the office, and Calvo, who serves as manager for Government Relations, Policy, and Legislation, will discuss initiatives underway across the board to modernize and improve the state regulatory system.

NOLHGA's 14th Annual Legal Seminar will be held on August 3 and 4, 2006, at The Renaissance Harborplace Hotel in Baltimore, Md. An MPC meeting will be held in conjunction with the seminar on August 1 and 2. Preliminary information for both meetings is available on the joint meeting Web page.

MPC Meeting Briefing Book Now Available

The briefing book for the upcoming MPC meeting, which will be held May 22-24, 2006, in Indianapolis, Ind., has been posted on the meeting Web page. Users may need to log in after clicking on the link to access the file, which can be found in the "Meeting Resources" section.

Due to the confidential nature of the briefing materials, only NOLHGA Board members, guaranty association administrators, members of guaranty association boards, and other association representatives who will attend the meeting as the designated voting guaranty association representative can access the briefing book. Other guaranty system representatives who need a particular insolvency status report should contact the appropriate NOLHGA staff contact.

The briefing book includes the meeting schedule, an attendee list, status reports for the upcoming meeting, and other meeting materials. It is in PDF format, and users will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print the materials. Acrobat Reader is available free from Adobe.
