Commissioner Kreidler to Speak at Legal Seminar
Washington State Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler has agreed to speak at NOLHGA’s 2015 Legal Seminar in July. At the seminar, he will share his perspectives on the status of health-care reform and his predictions for future progress.
Throughout his career, Commissioner Kreidler has been an advocate for state and federal health-care reform. Since its adoption, he has been a strong supporter of the Affordable Care Act and its implementation at the state level. Commissioner Kreidler is a doctor of optometry with a Master’s Degree in public health. He is also a retired lieutenant colonel from the Army Reserves, and he served in Congress as well as the state legislature.
NOLHGA’s 23rd Annual Legal Seminar will take place on July 23–24 at the Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco (an MPC meeting will be held on July 21–22). NOLHGA has secured a room rate for these meetings of $270/night plus tax, and reservations can be made through the meeting website or by contacting the hotel at 877.266.2050 and requesting the NOLHGA rate.
The registration fee for the 2015 Legal Seminar is $850, with a $55 “early bird” discount on all registrations received by June 22; there is no fee to attend the MPC meeting, though some events may be restricted to guaranty association members only.

Staff Contact - Booker T. Washington/Universal Life Insurance Companies (Alabama)Estates Make Final Distribution
In follow-up to the March 12, 2015, court order closing the estates of Booker T. Washington Insurance Company and Universal Life Insurance Company, NOLHGA will wire or mail the final distributions from the estates next week to the affected guaranty associations. Distribution schedules were calculated based on the most current policy values and claims paid. Amounts distributed totaled $3.9 million from the Booker T. Washington estate and $4.1 million from the Universal Life estate. The task force will continue to monitor the collection of premium and payment of claims being handled by Insurance Administrative Solutions. Task Force Chair – Rusty Haydel; Staff Contact -Wall Street Legend Harvey Miller Passes Away
Harvey Miller, a Partner in the New York City–based international law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP, passed away on April 27, 2015. He was 82.
Mr. Miller created and developed the firm’s Business Finance & Restructuring Department, specializing in reorganizing distressed business entities and representing creditors, investors, and purchasers of distressed businesses and assets. He spoke at NOLHGA’s 2014 Legal Seminar about his work on the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy.
