MPC Meets in Milwaukee
The Members’ Participation Council (MPC) conducted a meeting on April 26–27, 2023, in Milwaukee and online. The MPC General Session featured:
- Closed-session (affected guaranty associations only) presentations by the task forces for Global Bankers Insurance Group (North Carolina), North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company (North Carolina), Penn Treaty Network America/American Network Insurance Companies (Pennsylvania), and Senior Health Insurance Company of Pennsylvania (SHIP).
- The annual update on the operations of Guaranty Association Benefits Company (GABC), which administers the policies from the Executive Life of New York (ELNY) liquidation.
- Comments from NOLHGA Chair Nancy Davenport.
- The MPC Chair Report, during which MPC Chair Margaret Sperry (Rhode Island) updated attendees on the MPC Executive Committee meeting held on April 26. Among other matters, that meeting included a report on the results of a poll of guaranty association Executive Directors concerning the format of future MPC meetings (70% of respondents preferred that all meetings include an in-person element); a report from Business Continuity Plan Subgroup Chair Bart Boles (Texas) on the subgroup’s activities; a report on the progress of the New Guaranty Association Administrators Curriculum Committee; and reports from Executive Committee members on feedback they’d received as part of the GA Outreach Program. Ms. Sperry also reported on two educational sessions that were held on April 26 (see below).
- The NOLHGA Management Report, presented by NOLHGA President Peter Gallanis and NOLHGA Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Heard.
- A meeting of the MPC Executive Committee.
- A presentation by the MPC Small Block Options Subgroup conducted by Subgroup Chair Allan Patek (Wisconsin) and subgroup members Janis Potter (Illinois) and Mike Heard (NOLHGA).
- A panel discussion entitled Assessments 101 (sponsored by the Administrators Education Steering Committee) featuring moderator Todd Thakar (California and Nevada) and panelists Bob Burke (Vermont), Candie Kinch (Idaho, Oregon, and Wyoming), and Janis Potter (Illinois).
Liquidation Order Entered Against Southland National
On May 2, 2023, the Receivership Court entered the Liquidation Order against Southland National Insurance Corporation (SNIC). The order is effective immediately, as proposed by the Receiver. If you have any questions, please contact Bill O’Sullivan or Michael McDonald.
