NOLHGA's Annual Meeting Heads for San Antonio

As a reminder to all NOLHGA members and consultants, the 2012 Annual Meeting will be held on October 2-3 at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort, just a short drive from downtown San Antonio.

The meeting program is still under construction, but we're pleased to announce that ACLI President and CEO Gov. Dirk Kempthorne has agreed to speak at the meeting. In addition, Time Magazine senior political analyst Mark Halperin will be our luncheon speaker. Halperin, coauthor of the New York Times #1 bestseller Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, Palin and McCain, and the Race of a Lifetime, will offer attendees his insights into the 2012 presidential race and more.

More information about the Annual Meeting and the October 1 MPC meeting will appear in the NOLHGA Wire and in other NOLHGA communications efforts in the coming months.

No September MPC Meeting in 2012

Due to the short period of time between the July MPC meeting (July 24 and 25) and October MPC meeting (October 1), MPC Chair Mike Marchman (Georgia) and NOLHGA President Peter Gallanis have decided not to hold a September MPC meeting in 2012. As an alternative, more time will be allotted to the MPC meetings in July and October. With these meetings being held in conjunction with the Legal Seminar and Annual Meeting, respectively, we also hope to encourage greater guaranty association board member attendance.

We will revisit the need for a September meeting in 2013.

New Ohio Guaranty Association President Selected

The Ohio Insurance Guaranty Association's Board of Directors has selected Steve Durish to become President of the association effective April 2, 2012. He will replace Frank Gartland, who served as OIGA President for the past 23 years. Gartland will continue with the association on a part-time basis as General Counsel during a transition period, after which he will retire.

Durish, who has worked for the Texas Property and Casualty Insurance Guaranty Association for 20 years and previously worked as a Liquidator/Receiver in both Texas and Arkansas, will also be responsible for the Ohio Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association. He is scheduled to attend the April MPC meeting in San Diego.
