States General Life Insurance Company Placed in Liquidation

States General Life Insurance Company ("States General"), a Texas-domiciled insurer, was placed in liquidation on March 9, 2005. The company was licensed in 25 jurisdictions: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah. States General's in-force business consists predominantly of health insurance, including a block of Medicare supplement business, along with a few life policies. The business appears to have been written on approximately 200 different policy forms.

MPC Chair Jack Falkenbach (Delaware) has appointed a task force consisting of Chair James Rhodes (Oklahoma), Bart Boles (Texas), Andrea Bowers (South Carolina), Dotty Carley (Alabama), and William Falck (Florida). The task force is evaluating the business and administration systems and is scheduled to meet on March 22 in Dallas to discuss options for discharging guaranty association obligations.
