Legal Seminar Registration & Reservations Deadlines Approaching
The deadline for making hotel reservations and registering for NOLHGA's 14th Annual Legal Seminar is July 7, 2006. NOLHGA's 14th Annual Legal Seminar will be held August 3 and 4, 2006, at the Renaissance Harborplace Hotel in Baltimore, Md. The featured luncheon speaker on August 3 will be Marilyn Zoidis, senior curator of the Star-Spangled Banner Project at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. The project celebrates the flag that inspired America's national anthem--a garrison flag raised above Fort McHenry to celebrate the American victory over British forces in the Battle of Baltimore during the War of 1812. The flag inspired Francis Scott Key to write a poem in tribute to the "land of the free and the home of the brave." Later set to music, the poem became America's national anthem. Zoidis will talk about the history of the flag and the Smithsonian's efforts to preserve and display this American treasure.

Staff Contact - Sean McKenna Andrew Jackson Life Insurance Company (Miss.)Receiver Makes Early Access Distribution
The receiver for the Andrew Jackson Life estate has agreed to make an early access distribution to affected guaranty associations in the approximate amount of $4 million. The task force has been informed that checks will be sent to the affected guaranty associations this week. This will be the fifth early access distribution from the Andrew Jackson Life estate, for a total of $16.5 million in early access payments.

On June 23, 2006, Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher appointed Julie McPeak to serve as the new executive director of the Kentucky Office of Insurance. Glenn Jennings, the former executive director, has been appointed Kentucky's commissioner of Medicaid services. McPeak will assume her new responsibilities as executive director as of July 15, and she will replace Jennings as the liquidator of Kentucky Central Life at that time.
