Register Now for NOLHGA’s 2022 Legal Seminar/Insolvency Workshop
Registration is now open for NOLHGA’s 2022 Legal Seminar/Insolvency Workshop, which will be held on July 28–29 at the Ritz-Carlton Washington, D.C. (virtual attendance is also available). To register, visit the meeting website, which also includes the agenda for the workshop as well as registration for the July 27 MPC meeting.
NOLHGA’s 2022 Legal Seminar/Insolvency Workshop will be a hands-on training program that builds on the educational session conducted at the April MPC meeting. Using panel presentations and problem-solving breakout sessions, attendees will be presented with a hypothetical insolvency that touches on many of the issues guaranty associations face in a liquidation, from engaging with receivers to assessing policyholder obligations to developing a resolution plan (and all points in between). NOLHGA will be applying for CLE credit (including ethics) in all states.
The “early bird” fee for in-person attendance is $895 through July 4; registration after July 4 is $925 (with additional fees for guests who wish to attend the Welcome Reception and Luncheon). The fee for virtual attendees is $925. There is no fee to attend the MPC meeting, but attendance for some presentations may be restricted to guaranty association representatives.
We hope you can join us next month—in our Nation’s Capital or online—for the Legal Seminar/Insolvency Workshop, which promises to be an outstanding educational and networking opportunity for the guaranty community. If you have any questions about the workshop, please contact Sean McKenna at [email protected].

Dave McMahon, former NOLHGA Board Chair and Chair of the Virginia Life, Accident & Sickness Insurance Guaranty Association, passed away on June 16, 2022. He was 78 (click here for his obituary).
Dave began his career with First Colony Life Insurance Company in 1974 as an attorney. During his almost 40 years with the company, First Colony became part of Genworth Financial, and he retired from Genworth in 2014 as Senior Vice President and Associate General Counsel. Before joining Genworth, he served with the Central Intelligence Agency and did a tour with the U.S. Air Force.
Dave served on the NOLHGA Board of Directors from 1997–2003, serving as Chair from October 2001 to October 2002. He served as Chair of the Virginia guaranty association Board for more than 20 years, and he also served on the Boards of the Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Washington associations. He was a great friend and proponent of the state-based guaranty system, and NOLHGA expresses our deepest sympathies to his family for their loss.
