John Finston, Newly Appointed GC for the California Department, Will Speak at July Legal Seminar

John Finston, who was recently appointed by California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones as General Counsel for the California Department of Insurance (replacing outgoing General Counsel Adam Cole), will speak at NOLHGA’s 2015 Legal Seminar in July about captive insurers.

For the last three years, Finston has served as Deputy Commissioner for Corporate and Regulatory Affairs. He has practiced regulatory law for 35 years and currently serves on the Conservation and Liquidation Office Governance Committee and as a Board Member of the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation. Before joining the Department, Finston was a Partner in two large insurance law firms for more than 25 years. During that time, his practice emphasized insurance regulation, reinsurance, corporate transactions, and insurance company insolvency matters.

NOLHGA’s 23rd Annual Legal Seminar will take place on July 23–24 at the Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco (an MPC meeting will be held on July 22). NOLHGA has secured a room rate for these meetings of $270/night plus tax, and reservations can be made through the meeting website or by contacting the hotel at 877.266.2050 and requesting the NOLHGA rate.

The registration fee for the 2015 Legal Seminar is $850, with a $55 “early bird” discount on all registrations received by June 22; there is no fee to attend the MPC meeting, though some events may be restricted to guaranty association members only.
