Higa Named Chair of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Focus Group
Joy Higa (Senior Vice President, National Regulatory Affairs for UnitedHealthcare) has been named Chair of NOLHGA’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Focus Group, which was founded in 2021 to formally continue meaningful conversations regarding diversity and inclusion occurring throughout the guaranty system. “I’m delighted to be asked to serve as Chair this year, and I look forward to working with the members of the Focus Group,” Higa said, adding that the group’s agenda for 2022 includes governance/staffing, vendor procurement, and mission execution for possible guaranty system action. Higa is a member of the NOLHGA Board of Directors and also serves on the Boards of the Alaska, Hawaii, Minnesota, and Washington guaranty associations.
The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Focus Group also includes Frank Knighton Jr. (Georgia), who serves as Vice Chair; Kermitt Brooks (Chair of the NOLHGA Board of Directors); Bob Corn (Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company); Gerrie Marks (Prudential Financial, Inc.); MPC Chair Margaret Sperry (Rhode Island); and Todd Thakar (California and Nevada).

NOLHGA Chair Kermitt Brooks (Executive Vice President & General Counsel, Guardian Life Insurance Company of America) was elected President-Elect of the Association of Life Insurance Counsel (ALIC). He will become ALIC President at the organization’s 2023 Annual Meeting.
