Support Pediatric Cancer Research at Special Concert Next Week During NOLHGA’s Legal Seminar

NCIGF CEO Roger Schmelzer will present a concert on Thursday, July 19, in New York City during the NOLHGA Legal Seminar to raise money for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven initiative created by insurance professionals to support the most promising research in pediatric cancer. St. Baldrick’s funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.

Over $3,000 was raised at a similar event last year during an NCIGF function, and Roger hopes to at least double that amount in 2018. He’s well on his way; Faegre Baker Daniels has committed $2,500 to St. Baldrick’s in support of Roger’s efforts.

Roger has prioritized the guaranty fund community for involvement in this cause because, in his words, “Our guaranty fund mission is to protect people just like us. Pledging time and money to give kids a fighting chance to beat cancer is right where we live.”

The concert will be held at the venerable Don’t Tell Mama, located just two blocks from the Marriott Marquis at 346 West 46th Street (between 8th and 9th Avenues). The show begins at 7:00 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30. Don’t Tell Mama also offers a full restaurant and bar for dinner either before or after the show.

Tickets are $45 (cash at the door) with a two-drink minimum.

North Carolina GA Seeks Applicants for Executive Director

The North Carolina Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association is seeking applications for a well-qualified candidate to fill the position of Executive Director. The association is a nonprofit insurance industry–supported organization that handles and pays, pursuant to statute, insurance claims of North Carolina residents if their life, health, or annuity insurer becomes insolvent.

The Executive Director has direct reporting responsibility to the Board of Directors and primary responsibility for carrying out the day-to-day operations of the association. The ability to effectively coordinate activities with other state guaranty associations through a national organization, as well as with insurance receivers and regulators, is essential. Some travel is required.

The expected hire date is January 1, 2019, but this is flexible based on the candidate’s availability.

Candidate requirements:
• Significant experience in the life and health insurance industry
• Professional designation: legal or financial preferred
• Ability to work with other state guaranty associations, NOLHGA, and regulators
• Prior experience with an insurance guaranty association or in a receivership setting is a plus
• Capable of managing day-to-day operations as a one-person, independent office
• Administer operations in accordance with policies and procedures adopted by the association
• Able and willing to participate at the national level: NOLHGA, NAIC, IAIR, etc.
