Reservation Deadline for Legal Seminar/Insolvency Workshop Ready To Expire
The hotel reservation deadline for NOLHGA’s 2022 Legal Seminar/Insolvency Workshop ends today, July 8. After today, NOLHGA can no longer guarantee the special room rate of $289/night plus tax at the Ritz-Carlton Washington, D.C., host hotel for the July 28–29 Legal Seminar/Insolvency Workshop and July 27 MPC meeting.
Attendees can book their rooms and register for both meetings at the meeting website, which also includes meeting agendas and other information.
As a reminder, the July MPC meeting and Insolvency Workshop will be “hybrid” events, with remote and in-person attendance. The registration fee for in-person and virtual attendance at the Workshop is $925 (with additional fees for guests who wish to attend the Welcome Reception and Luncheon). There is no fee to attend the MPC meeting, but attendance for most presentations is restricted to guaranty association representatives.
After you register for the MPC meeting and/or the Insolvency Workshop, you will receive a confirmation email from [email protected]. If you don’t receive the email, or if it lands in your Junk folder, please notify us at [email protected].
If you have any trouble accessing the meeting website, please contact Dan Hicks at [email protected] or 703.787.4112. If you have any questions about the meeting, contact Sean McKenna at [email protected] or 703.787.4106.

Paul Peterson, NOLHGA’s Vice President of Accounting and Finance, retired in early July. He joined NOLHGA in 1993.
“I never would have thought, coming here in February 1993, that I would be at an organization for 29 years,” Paul says. “But it turns out that working on the different insolvencies and industry issues and gaining the friendships made with administrators, Board members, receivers, and regulators over all the years has been a point of pride and fulfillment in my career. Knowing all of you out there are taking care of policyholders and being associated with each of you in that regard is a point of honor that I’m proud to be a part of. Please take care (yes, even the lawyers and the non-Packer fans, if you can believe there is such a thing), and I’m sure we’ll stay in touch.”
Before joining NOLHGA, Paul spent 13 years in the insurance industry in the financial field, gaining experience in U.S. and Canadian statutory and GAAP accounting; U.S federal and state income tax reporting; operational, commission, and treasury accounting functions; and budgeting. At NOLHGA, he served as the main staff contact for the Accounting Issues Committee and Assessment Data Task Force and provided accounting/financial support to the vast majority of insolvency task forces. In particular, he provided support to the Lincoln Memorial/Memorial Service Life Insurance Companies Task Force; his work on the litigation stemming from that case helped in the recovery of almost $260 million for the litigating plaintiffs.
Paul also served as a vital resource on insurer insolvency and assessment issues for NOLHGA member guaranty associations. Executive Directors knew they could always call on him for help with insolvency cost data or the new long-term care assessment allocation, provided they were willing to talk for a few minutes about his beloved Green Bay Packers.
Please join the entire NOLHGA family in thanking Paul for almost three decades of outstanding work (and even more outstanding friendship) and in wishing him well in his retirement.
