North Carolina GA Seeks Applicants for Executive Director

The North Carolina Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association is seeking applications for a well-qualified candidate to fill the position of Executive Director. The association is a nonprofit insurance industry–supported organization that handles and pays, pursuant to statute, insurance claims of North Carolina residents if their life, health, or annuity insurer becomes insolvent.

The Executive Director has direct reporting responsibility to the Board of Directors and primary responsibility for carrying out the day-to-day operations of the association. The ability to effectively coordinate activities with other state guaranty associations through a national organization, as well as with insurance receivers and regulators, is essential. Some travel is required.

The expected hire date is January 1, 2019, but this is flexible based on the candidate’s availability.

Candidate requirements:
• Significant experience in the life and health insurance industry
• Professional designation: legal or financial preferred
• Ability to work with other state guaranty associations, NOLHGA, and regulators
• Prior experience with an insurance guaranty association or in a receivership setting is a plus
• Capable of managing day-to-day operations as a one-person, independent office
• Administer operations in accordance with policies and procedures adopted by the association
• Able and willing to participate at the national level: NOLHGA, NAIC, IAIR, etc.

Ron Bowers Passes Away

Ron Bowers, husband of Andrea Bowers (Administrator of the South Carolina Life & Accident & Health Insurance Guaranty Association) passed away on June 25, 2018. He was 76.

Services will be conducted on July 8, 2018, at 3:00 p.m. at Silverstreet Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Hollings Cancer Center at MUSC in Charleston, the American Cancer Society, or the American Diabetes Association. His obituary can be found here.
