Hearing on Receiver's Petition to Close Postponed

A hearing on the receiver's petition for approval of final settlement of claims and to close the estate, previously scheduled for January 22, 2004, has been continued at the request of the receiver. The continuance was requested to allow the receiver additional time to resolve a final uncovered claim issue. The court has not yet scheduled a new hearing date for the petition to close.

Based on the receiver's petition and distribution schedules, the task force expects the guaranty associations to receive a total of $745,512 from the final distribution. Upon receipt of these funds, the guaranty associations will have recovered 100 percent of their $725,076 expense claims and about $548,090 (about 10 percent) of their total $5.3 million policyholder-level claims.

Becker, Boles & Horvath Named to MPC Executive Committee

Linda Becker (Kans.), Bart Boles (Tex.), and Joe Horvath (Pa.) have been named to the 2004 MPC Executive Committee. They replace Gerald Backhaus (Minn.), William Falck (Fla.), and Jamie Kelldorf (Colo. and Wyo.). NOLHGA would like to extend a warm welcome to the new members of the committee and to thank the departing members for all their hard work.

Andrea Bowers (S.C.), Art Dummer (Utah), Mark Femal (Wis.), Pete Leonard (Calif.), and Mike Marchman (Ga.) will remain on the committee in 2004.

Deadline for MPC Meeting Registration & Reservations Today

The deadline for registering and making hotel reservations for the next MPC meeting, which will be held February 16-18, 2004, in Naples, Fla., is today, January 23, 2004.
