The Members' Participation Council (MPC) met in Orlando on January 9-11, 2012. Task force meetings were held for Executive Life Insurance Company of New York, Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Company (California), Medical Savings Insurance Company (Indiana), National States Insurance Company (Missouri), Penn Treaty Network America/American Network Insurance Companies (Pennsylvania), and Universal Life/Booker T. Washington Insurance Companies (Alabama). The Executive Life Insurance Company (California) Task Force conducted a presentation on defeasance, and the Accounting Issues and Security Advisory Committees met as well.
At the MPC Executive Committee meeting, Committee Chair Mike Marchman (Georgia) thanked four members who were leaving the committee for their years of service to the committee and the guaranty system. The departing members were Rusty Haydel (Mississippi), Joe Horvath (Pennsylvania), Dan Orth (Illinois), and Peggy Parker (Virginia). Marchman also welcomed four new members to the committee: Candie Kinch (Idaho), Lowell Miller (North Carolina), Pam Olsen (Nebraska), and Tom Sullivan (Iowa).
The MPC meeting also featured an Administrators Education Steering Committee presentation on problems facing receivers. The presentation featured Jodi Hoss of SNR Denton and Daniel Watkins of The Law Offices of Daniel L. Watkins and was moderated by Lowell Miller (North Carolina).
The General Session featured a presentation on the activities of the Security Advisory Committee conducted by Chair Candie Kinch (Idaho). The Coverage/Claims Committee gave a presentation on its 2012 projects conducted by Committee Chair John Colpean (Michigan) and committee members Kevin Griffith (Faegre Baker Daniels) and Bill O'Sullivan (NOLHGA staff). Staff Contact - Sean McKennaNew Schedule for April MPC Meeting
The schedule for the April 10-12 MPC meeting in San Diego will differ slightly from the usual MPC schedule. The meeting will run from Tuesday through Thursday, and we expect Wednesday and Thursday to be full days, lasting till at least 4:00 p.m. local time (those two days will probably feature task force meetings for ELNY and Penn Treaty/ANIC, the MPC General Session, and a half-day educational session, as well as other meetings).
We anticipate that any meetings on Tuesday will be held in the afternoon so that attendees can avoid Monday travel if they wish. Because we are on the West Coast, we are scheduling the meeting to end on Thursday afternoon rather than noon on Friday, so that attendees can plan on early morning flights on Friday to get home at a reasonable hour.
The Web page for the April 2012 MPC meeting should be available next week.
