MPC Meets in Tampa

The Members’ Participation Council (MPC) held a meeting on January 11–12, 2024, in Tampa and online. The MPC General Session featured:

  • Comments from NOLHGA Chair Gerrie Marks on NOLHGA’s educational priorities for 2024 and the strategic planning session held on January 11.
  • The MPC Chair Report, during which MPC Chair Margaret Sperry (Rhode Island) updated attendees on the activity of the MPC's Model Plan of Operations Subgroup, upcoming educational sessions, and other matters.
  • The NOLHGA Management Report, during which NOLHGA President Katie Wade reported on the next steps in the strategic planning process and other matters.
  • Closed-session (affected guaranty associations only) presentations by the task forces for Global Bankers Insurance Group (North Carolina), North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company (North Carolina), Penn Treaty Network America/American Network Insurance Companies (Pennsylvania), and Senior Health Insurance Company of Pennsylvania (SHIP).
The MPC meeting also featured:
  • A meeting of the MPC Executive Committee.
  • An educational session titled Annuities 101, conducted by Justin Bateman (New York Life), Bill Fisher (Massachusetts), Kevin Griffith (Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath), and moderator Nancy Margolis (Pennsylvania).
  • A review of the NOLHGA/NCIGF Receivership Tabletop Session conducted at the NAIC’s Fall National Meeting in November 2023, presented by Frank Knighton Jr. (Georgia), Michael O’Day (Washington), and Pamela Epp Olsen (Minnesota and Nebraska), all of whom participated in the session.
  • A GA Administrator Strategic Planning Session facilitated by Bonnie Hagemann, CEO and Board Chair of EDA, Inc.

NJ P&C Association Seeks General Counsel

The New Jersey Property-Liability Insurance Guaranty Association is seeking a new General Counsel. The General Counsel provides legal counsel on statutory, regulatory, human resources, and employment issues and is directly responsible for human resources, internal auditing, and internal legal counsel. The General Counsel also oversees general administration of outside counsel and represents the Association at the legislature, Department of Insurance, Insurance Council of New Jersey, and the NCIGF. The position involves active participation in the management of overall activities of the Association and strategic planning for the Association, as well as oversight, evaluation, and staff development of personnel within the Association.
