
April MPC Meeting Web Page Goes Live
The Web page for the April 2013 MPC meeting in Salt Lake City has gone live. The page offers online registration and hotel reservations as well as other meeting information. While a preliminary schedule will not be available until March, we expect the meeting to run all day on Tuesday, April 9, and until approximately 5:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday, April 10.

The Members’ Participation Council (MPC) met in Clearwater Beach, Florida, on January 8–10, 2013. Task force meetings or briefings were held for Executive Life Insurance Company (California), Executive Life Insurance Company of New York, Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Company (California), Medical Savings Insurance Company (Indiana), Penn Treaty Network America/American Network Insurance Companies (Pennsylvania), and Universal Life/Booker T. Washington Insurance Companies (Alabama). The MPC Executive Committee and Accounting Issues Committee met separately, and the Administrators Education Steering Committee hosted a presentation on escheat issues conducted by Bart Boles (Texas), Jan Funk (Indiana), and Joel Glover (Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons).
In addition to the task force reports below, the General Session featured an update on the activities of the GA Laws Committee by Committee Chair John Mathews (Allstate), a briefing on recent guaranty association–related activities at the NAIC and ACLI by Bill O’Sullivan (NOLHGA), an update on MPC Executive Committee activity by new MPC Chair John Colpean (Michigan), and an update on financial services regulatory modernization by NOLHGA President Peter Gallanis.
The following task force insolvency reports were presented during the MPC General Session:
Staff Contact - Sean McKenna Lincoln Memorial/Memorial Service Life Insurance Companies (Texas)Task Force Member Tom Sullivan (Iowa) reviewed administrative matters with respect to the case, including expenses, policy-related costs (claims minus premiums), and early access distributions.
Task Force Chair – Tad Rhodes; Staff Contact - Paul Peterson National States Insurance Company (Missouri)Task Force Chair Randy Blumer (Wisconsin) reviewed the costs associated with the estate. Among other activities scheduled for 2013, the task force plans to continue claims funding (primarily for the long-term-care block of business), update the guaranty associations’ proof of claim, and consider initiating a request for proposal process to move the remaining LTC/miscellaneous health blocks.
