
Legal Seminar Planning Begins
Planning has begun for NOLHGA's 18th Annual Legal Seminar, which will take place on July 15-16, 2010, at New York's Marriott Marquis in Times Square. The seminar will be held in conjunction with the MPC meeting scheduled for July 13 and 14.
The Legal Seminar Planning Committee recently held its kickoff teleconference to develop an agenda for the seminar. This year's Planning Committee is made up of Committee Chair Joel Glover (Rothgerber, Johnson & Lyons), Jack Falkenbach (Delaware), Jan Funk (Indiana), Charles Gullickson (South Dakota), Jim Lenaghan (New Jersey), Tad Rhodes (Oklahoma), and Charlie Richardson (Baker & Daniels).

Staff Contact -MPC Meets in Tampa
The Members' Participation Council (MPC) met in Tampa, Florida, on January 27-29, 2010. Task force meetings were held for Imerica Life and Health Insurance Company (Arkansas), Executive Life Insurance Company of New York, Universal Life/Booker T. Washington Life Insurance Companies (Alabama), Medical Savings Insurance Company (Indiana), and Penn Treaty Network America/American Network Insurance Companies (Pennsylvania).
The meeting also featured an Administrators Education Steering Committee presentation on long-term care conducted by Guy Bertsch, Vice President of LTC Underwriting with Unum; and Vince Bodnar, Principal and Consulting Actuary with DaVinci Consulting Group.
The General Session featured closed-session presentations by Executive Life Insurance Company (California) and Medical Savings Insurance Company (Indiana) as well as a preview of the April 2010 Administrators Education Steering Committee educational session by Committee Chair Candie Kinch (Idaho) and an update by Dave Perry (Montana) on the status of efforts by many states to update their guaranty association statutes.

The Accounting Issues Committee is pleased to announce that a new version of the Accounting Guidelines Manual has been posted to NOLHGA's Web site. Authorized users will need to log in to access the file, which can be found in the Publications/Documents/Reports section (in the Member Content menu) in the Special Reports & Documents section.
The Manual has been updated for the new IRS Form 990; both cash basis and accrual basis samples are included. In addition, Chapter 6--dealing with 1099 filing guidelines--has been updated.
