
MPC Meeting Materials Now Available
The complete briefing materials for the next MPC meeting, which will be held February 17-19, 2003, at the Astor Crowne Plaza - French Quarter in New Orleans, La., have been posted on the meeting Web page. The briefing book is in the "Meeting Information" section. Registered attendees will have to log in once they reach this section to access the materials.
Please note the changes that have been made to the preliminary meeting schedule:
• The London Pacific roundtable meeting at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, is now a closed session. Only administrators, Board members, and legal counsel representing affected state GAs may attend.
• A buffet lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. on the same day. Meeting attendees who will not attend the London Pacific roundtable are welcome to join us for lunch; tables will be set up in the nearby Astor Gallery.
• Robert Wooley, Louisiana's acting commissioner of insurance, will deliver the opening remarks at the Welcome Reception on Tuesday, February 18, in the Astor Gallery; the reception begins at 6:00 p.m.
• During the MPC General Session on Wednesday, February 19, Ronald Bachman, a principal at PricewaterhouseCoopers, will give a presentation on defined-contribution health plans and what they might mean for guaranty associations. Materials for the presentation, which is being sponsored by the Administrators' Education Steering Committee, can be found in the same section as the briefing book.
The briefing materials and the defined-contribution health plans presentation materials are in PDF format, and users will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print either file. Acrobat Reader is available free from Adobe at this link.

Staff Contact -NOLHGA Room Rates Reduced for MPC Meeting
The Astor Crowne Plaza - French Quarter has informed NOLHGA that the special NOLHGA room rates for the February MPC meeting have been reduced. The standard room rate of $199 a night has been reduced to $119 a night, and the Executive Club Level nightly rate has been lowered from $239 to $159. Attendees should confirm that they will receive the new room rate when they check into the hotel. Gene Calame, chairman of the board of the Oklahoma Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association since 1994, passed away on February 1, 2003. Calame worked for Globe Life and Accident Insurance Company in Oklahoma City for 37 years, where he rose to the position of executive vice president, secretary, and general counsel before retiring in 1999. The NOLHGA staff expresses its deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
