Update on NOLHGA's 2009 Annual Meeting
In light of concerns in the industry and this year's financial markets, NOLHGA believes it is prudent to postpone making a decision on the location of NOLHGA's 26th Annual Meeting in 2009. Many properties and locations have been researched, and as you might expect, the market is quite competitive.
We know it is important for members to be able to plan for this meeting and schedule other events, so we'd like to provide three possible dates for the October 2009 meeting: October 7-9, October 12-14, and October 14-16. If you could reserve these three sets of dates until a decision has been finalized and a contract is in place, we would appreciate it. A final decision on the location will be announced as soon as possible, but likely not until early 2009.
Staff Contact -NOLHGA Board Accepting Recommendations for Committee Appointments
The NOLHGA Board of Directors will soon be considering the appointment of several Board committees for 2009, including committees that are made up primarily of individuals other than those members serving on the NOLHGA Board. These include the following: (1) Accounting Issues Committee, (2) Administrators Education Steering Committee, (3) Assessment Data Survey Task Force, (4) Communications Committee, (5) Coverage/Claims Committee, and (6) Legal Committee.
While it is not expected that there will be many vacancies, there will be a few openings. The Board is always interested in hearing from both guaranty association administrators and state Board members who are genuinely interested in actively participating in NOLHGA activities and projects. This includes preparing for and participating in meetings and teleconferences and volunteering for projects and assignments, but can also include taking the lead on discussions, chairing subgroups, drafting documents, and the like.
In particular, the Assessment Data Survey Task Force is seeking additional members from the member companies. Prospective members should be familiar with statutory financial reporting concepts, completion of the statutory financial statements, and the guaranty association premium data survey form. Primary functions will include the review of the annual premium data filings (this is done in the first week of June) along with developing any modifications to the reporting forms.
If you or someone you know is interested and willing to devote the time required to any of these committees, please submit an indication of interest to Holly Wilding. In the event we cannot accommodate everyone's expressed interest, we will retain the information for any unexpected vacancies during 2009 and for consideration when appointments are made for 2010.
