Senator Hatch to Speak at Legal Seminar
United States Senator Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah) has agreed to speak Thursday afternoon, August 18, at NOLHGA's 13th Annual Legal Seminar, which will be held at the Stein Eriksen Lodge in Park City, Utah, on August 18-19, 2005.
Sen. Hatch has served in the Senate since 1976 and is the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee. He also serves on the Senate's Finance Committee; Intelligence Committee; Taxation Committee; and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. In the Senate he has fought against expansion of federal bureaucracy, including burdensome and costly federal regulations. According to his Web site, "he has been recognized by the National Taxpayers' Union for his fiscal responsibility and has been dubbed by others 'Mr. Free Enterprise,' 'Guardian of Small Business,' and 'Mr. Constitution.'" At the Legal Seminar, he will discuss federal insurance issues and his work on the Senate Judiciary Committee.
In other seminar news, NOLHGA has secured Myles Rademan as its luncheon speaker. Rademan has served as the planning director and director of public affairs for Park City and is an internationally recognized speaker. He served as director of information and chair of the Speaker's Bureau for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City and was an Olympic torchbearer. During his presentation, he will discuss the history of Park City, which hosted a number of events at the 2002 Winter Games.

The briefing book for the upcoming MPC meeting, which will be held August 16-17, 2005, in Park City, Utah, has been posted on the joint Legal Seminar/MPC meeting Web page, which can be found here. Users may need to log in after clicking on the link to access the file, which can be found in the "Meeting Resources" section.
Due to the confidential nature of the briefing materials, only NOLHGA Board members, guaranty association administrators, members of guaranty association boards, and other association representatives who will attend the meeting as the designated voting guaranty association representative can access the briefing book. Other guaranty system representatives who have a need for a particular insolvency status report should contact the appropriate NOLHGA staff contact.
The briefing book includes the meeting schedule, an attendee list, status reports for the upcoming meeting, and other meeting materials. It is in PDF format, and users will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print the materials. Acrobat Reader is available free from Adobe.

The "Publications" section of the NOLHGA Web site, which is accessible only to password holders, has been redesigned to make it easier for users to find publications and other documents produced by NOLHGA.
The section, which can be found on the right side of the "Members" page users arrive at after logging in, has been broken down into two subsections: Publications and Reports & Documents. The Publications subsection houses NOLHGA's regularly produced publications, such as the NOLHGA Wire, NOLHGA Journal, and GA Update. The Reports & Documents subsection contains various institutional documents (such as the NOLHGA Bylaws), special reports (including the Insolvency Financial Reports and the Assessment & Capacity Report), and other documents.
Links to the two subsections can also be found in the "Member Content" list of links to the left of the page. These links feature "rollover" text--when users run their cursor over the "publications" or "reports & documents" links, small menus showing the contents of each link will extend to the right. These menus offer users the ability to scroll down and go directly to the publication or document they're seeking.
