
Maine Superintendent Kofman to Speak at Annual Meeting
Mila Kofman, Superintendent of the Maine Bureau of Insurance, is scheduled to speak at NOLHGA's 25th Annual Meeting, which will be held at the Four Seasons Resort Jackson Hole in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, on October 7 and 8. She is scheduled to speak the morning of October 8.
In addition to leading the Maine Bureau of Insurance, Superintendent Kofman chairs the Consumer Protection and Innovations Working Group of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Prior to her appointment in Maine, she was an Associate Research Professor and Project Director at the Georgetown University Health Policy Institute, where she studied state private health insurance market reforms, regulation, products, and financing strategies. As a federal regulator at the U.S. Department of Labor (1997-2001), she implemented HIPAA and related laws and also worked on legislative and regulatory initiatives--the Patient's Bill of Rights, long-term-care insurance, nursing home reform, and ERISA reform.
Superintendent Kofman has testified before the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, and state legislatures. She has appeared on NPR, CNN, and the CBS Evening News and has been cited in BusinessWeek, Consumer Reports, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Forbes, U.S. News & World Report, A.M. Best, AP, and other press.

The first two MPC meetings in 2009 will be held at the Renaissance Tampa Hotel International Plaza (January 19-21) in Tampa, Florida, and the Skirvin Hilton Oklahoma City (April 15-17) in Oklahoma.
