
MPC Meets in Newport Beach
The Members’ Participation Council (MPC) met in Newport Beach, California, on April 19–20, 2016. The Medical Savings Insurance Company (Indiana), National Heritage Life Insurance Company (Delaware), and SeeChange Health Insurance Company (California) Task Forces held meetings, and the Penn Treaty Network America/American Network Insurance Companies (Pennsylvania) Task Force conducted a closed-session presentation. The MPC Executive Committee met as well.
The meeting also featured a number of Administrators Education Steering Committee presentations: At Least We Have Our Health, conducted by Katelyn Fisher (Faegre Baker Daniels) and Vince Bodnar (LTCG); The Name of the Game Is De-Risk, conducted by Susan Cannilla (Prudential Retirement) and Kevin Griffith (Faegre Baker Daniels) and moderated by Steve Durish (Ohio); and Guaranty Association Corporate Governance Reality, conducted by Frank O’Loughlin (Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie) and Margaret Sperry (Rhode Island) and moderated by Candie Kinch (Idaho, Oregon, and Wyoming).
In addition to the task force reports below, the General Session featured an update on the activities of the Coverage/Claims Committee by Committee Chair John Colpean (Michigan) and committee members Bill O’Sullivan (NOLHGA) and Jack Falkenbach (Delaware) as well as an update from Security Advisory Committee Chair Candie Kinch (Idaho, Oregon, and Wyoming). NOLHGA President Peter Gallanis provided an update on financial services regulatory modernization, and MPC Chair Pamela E. Olsen, Esq., briefed attendees on MPC Executive Committee activity.

Task Force Chair - Jack Falkenbach; Staff Contact - SeeChange Health Insurance Company (California)Task Force Chair Janis Potter (Illinois) reported on the claims paid to date by the affected guaranty associations and added that the task force expects to perform a true-up of the escrow account after claims administration is completed. Task Force Legal Counsel Frank O’Loughlin (Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie) updated attendees on various federal issues involving the estate.

The NOLHGA office will be moving this week, and our phone, fax, e-mail, and website will be down for most of Friday, April 29. All lines of communication should be restored by the weekend, and the office will reopen in its new location (suite 505 of the same building we occupy now) on Monday, May 2.
