Health Care "Debate" Scheduled for Legal Seminar

While not technically a debate, two prominent attorneys will discuss both sides of the health-care reform constitutionality issue when they take the stage at NOLHGA's upcoming Legal Seminar in July. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) has been winding its way through the nation's legal system since its adoption in March 2010. Two years later, the constitutional challenges to the act reached the Supreme Court, with oral argument taking place last month and a decision expected before the Court adjourns for the summer.

Neal Katyal of Hogan Lovells and Greg Katsas of Jones Day will discuss the implications of this important decision for the future of U.S. health care. Katsas appeared before the Supreme Court as co-lead counsel for the private plaintiffs challenging PPACA in the 11th Circuit case Florida v. Department of Health and Human Services. Katyal, a former acting solicitor general, defended PPACA in the 11th Circuit.

NOLHGA's 20th Annual Legal Seminar will be held on July 26-27, 2012, at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston. The seminar will be held in conjunction with an MPC meeting scheduled for July 24-25. NOLHGA has secured a room rate for this meeting of $219/night plus tax, and reservations can be made by contacting the hotel at 800.441.1414 and requesting the NOLHGA rate. Please contact Meg Melusen at [email protected] if you have any questions.
