Travis Joins NOLHGA
Cathy Travis, former Special Deputy Receiver for the State of Illinois from 1999 to 2008, has joined the NOLHGA staff on a temporary basis to assist with staff and insolvency task force activities. Her extensive experience in insolvency resolution will provide NOLHGA with a much-needed additional resource to handle current and future insolvencies (should any arise).
Before being named Special Deputy Receiver, Travis served as Director and General Counsel of the Office of the Special Deputy Receiver. She is a graduate of Loyola University School of Law and Governors State University.
Travis will be attending the MPC meeting in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, next week. We encourage all attendees to say hello and welcome her to the NOLHGA family.
Staff Contact - Sean McKennaCredit Default Swap Panel Scheduled for Legal Seminar
A panel on credit default swaps and their impact on the insurance industry is scheduled for NOLHGA's 2009 Legal Seminar, which will be held on July 9 and 10 at the Ritz-Carlton in Chicago. The panel, which will be held on the morning of July 10, will feature Ken Wylie, a Partner with Sidley Austin, and Joel Telpner, a Partner with Mayer Brown.
The panelists will provide a primer on the basics of credit default swaps and their use. They will also address the financial impact of credit default swaps on the life insurance industry--including the role these transactions played in AIG's financial crisis--and ongoing developments with respect to the regulation of credit default swaps.
In addition to the Legal Seminar, an MPC meeting is scheduled to take place on July 8. More information on NOLHGA's 17th Annual Legal Seminar and the MPC meeting will appear in the NOLHGA Wire and other NOLHGA publications in the near future. If you have any questions about the Legal Seminar or MPC meeting, please contact Sean McKenna at [email protected].
Staff Contact - Sean McKenna Medical Savings Insurance Company (Indiana)April 20 Deadline for Service and Litigation Agreement Responses
The Service and Litigation Agreements for Medical Savings Insurance Company were e-mailed to all affected guaranty associations in an opt-in/opt-out package on March 20, 2009. Responses are due April 20. Please note that the Litigation Agreement requires an affirmative opt-in; to participate in the agreement, your guaranty association must complete and return the enclosed certificate of participation.
Participation in the Service Agreement is being established by NOLHGA's standard "opt-out" process so that any guaranty association that does not opt out by the response deadline will be deemed to be a participating association. However, any affected guaranty association may, at its election, identify itself as a participating association sooner than the opt-out deadline by completing and returning a certificate of participation at an earlier date.
Participation certificates for each of these agreements should be sent to the attention of Joni Forsythe at NOLHGA, no later than April 20, by mail, fax (703.481.5209), or e-mail ([email protected]).
If you have any questions regarding participation, please contact Joni Forsythe at 703.787.4103.
