May MPC Meeting Web Page Now Available

The Web page for the upcoming MPC meeting, which will be held May 16-18, 2005, at the Four Seasons Hotel Austin in Austin, Tex., can be accessed at the following link: Web page. The meeting page offers online registration as well as hotel information and other meeting details. A preliminary schedule of events will soon be available in PDF format in the "Meeting Resources" section.The cut-off date for hotel reservations is April 22, 2005. We encourage you to make your reservations and register for the meeting as soon as possible.

Technology Workshop Offered at MPC Meeting

The Administrators' Education Steering Committee will present a workshop on computer software, security, and other technology issues at the May MPC meeting in Austin (see above). The workshop will be offered twice--on the afternoon of May 16 (Monday) and the morning of May 17--and advanced registration is required.

The workshop will be led by Kenny Bullock, NOLHGA's manager of technology systems, and Dan Hicks, NOLHGA's manager of information systems. Topics will include computer security (firewalls, viruses, and spyware), the importance of keeping backups of your office's data, basic troubleshooting of computer problems, and Internet browsing (pop-up ads, cookies, online security, etc.). In addition, attendees are encouraged to e-mail suggestions or questions they would like to have addressed at the workshop to [email protected] or [email protected]. All registered attendees will receive a CD with computer tips, how-to articles, free demonstration software, technical support information, and other materials.

A preliminary meeting schedule should be posted on the meeting Web page next week. Once it is ready, we will ask attendees to sign up for a workshop that will fit their schedule.

Updated Accounting Guidelines Manual Posted to NOLHGA Web Site

An updated version of the Accounting Guidelines Manual has been posted to the "Publications" section of the NOLHGA Web site under "Special Reports." The new Manual includes an update on highlights of OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control) compliance.

Approved users will have to log in to access the Manual, which is in PDF format. Please contact Dan Hicks at [email protected] or 703.787.4112 if you encounter any problems opening the file.
