Life & Health Insurance Company of America | PA

Company Overview

The Life and Heath Insurance Company of America (LHICA) was based in Plymouth, Pennsylvania, and its business consisted of long-term-care insurance and home health-care products for the “age 65 and over” market, as well as life insurance for the home service market. Prior to 1996, the company concentrated primarily in the long-term-care market.

Due to financial difficulties suffered by LHICA, the Pennsylvania Court, after being petitioned by the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance, authorized the department to take control of the company in July 2004. Shortly thereafter, the department notified policyholders and creditors that the company was to be liquidated and its policy obligations, subject to statutory limits, would be the responsibility of the state guaranty associations. One of the first actions taken by the guaranty associations was to hire R.N. Swanson & Associates to continue to collect premiums and pay claims so as not to disrupt policyholder benefits.

Under the Pennsylvania Court’s approved liquidation plan for the company, specific blocks of LHICA’s policies were assumed by different insurance companies. Details of the transactions and contact information for these companies can be found below.

The remaining long term care policies and several other medical policies are currently being administered by a TPA on behalf of participating affected guaranty associations. Contact information for Disability Insurance Specialists can be found below.

Policy & Claims Administration

Policies of an insolvent company are often transferred to a financially sound insurance company. If policies are not transferred to another company, the policies are continued and claims administered by either the guaranty associations or a third-party administrator (TPA) working on behalf of the associations. Please contact the company/TPA listed below or the guaranty association in your state of residence for more information about your policy.
