Ranch Sale Closes

On August 9, the American Standard Life estate closed on the sale of ranch property located in Park County, Colorado to Harstel Spring Ranch. The purchase price for the property was $8.25 million in cash, which now represents the principal asset of ASL's estate. The closing effectively ends an eight-month battle with David Nicholas, former controlling shareholder of ASL, who had tried to block the sale on various occasions.

Claims Batch 24 Mailed

Centennial health claims batch 24, consisting of claims processed July 1-31, was sent to guaranty associations last week. Batch 24 included 1,402 claims for over $500,000. To date, only six claims exceed guaranty association limits: one each in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Kansas, Nevada and Ohio.

$22.2 Million Repayment Made

On Thursday, checks totaling $22.2 million were sent by the liquidator to guaranty associations as a repayment for guaranty association support payments for the Separate Account block.

NOLHGA Board Nominations

On August 5, NOLHGA sent letters to state board chairs and guaranty association administrators requesting suggestions for nominees for NOLHGA Board vacancies to be filled at the annual meeting in October. Other state board members wishing to make suggestions for nominees are free to do so. Further information on suggesting a nominee may be obtained by e-mailing Holly Wilding at [email protected]. Nominee suggestions are due August 23.

Registration packets, hotel information and a preliminary list of speakers for NOLHGA's annual meeting, being held October 21-22 in Indian Wells, California, were mailed to members last week.
