Registration Available for January 2007 MPC Meeting

Online registration for the next MPC meeting, which will take place January 15-17, 2007, at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando, Fla., is now available on the meeting Web page. The page also includes information on the host hotel and other details.

The cut-off date for hotel reservations is December 14, 2006. Because Orlando is such a popular vacation destination, we anticipate that the hotel will fill up well before that date, and we urge all attendees to book their rooms as soon as possible. The NOLHGA room rate for the meeting is $219/night plus tax, and that rate will be available three days before and three days after the meeting, depending on room availability. The meeting Web page offers a link to the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Web site. To make reservations online, simply select the appropriate dates, enter "g-orgl" under Group/Corporate #, click Check Availability, and select a room.

The meeting page also features a link to a special Web site created by the Orlando Convention & Visitors Bureau to help NOLHGA meeting attendees plan their trips. The link can be found in the "Activities" and "Announcements" sections.

Arbitration Hearing Concludes

The three-week arbitration proceeding between NOLHGA and the California Insurance Commissioner came to a close on November 9, 2006, as the parties’ attorneys made closing arguments and the case was submitted to the arbitrator for a ruling. The dispute at the center of the arbitration involved the interpretation of the Executive Life Rehabilitation Plan and Enhancement Agreement for purposes of distributing estate proceeds arising out of the Altus litigation. To date, the guaranty associations have received in excess of $47 million from Altus litigation civil proceeds. The arbitrator’s decision, which is expected by year-end, will determine whether the guaranty associations receive further Altus recoveries but will not affect the $47 million distribution already made.
