Legal Seminar Panel to Discuss DOL’s Fiduciary Rule

NOLHGA’s 2016 Legal Seminar, which will be held on July 21–22 at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C., will feature a panel discussion on the U.S. Department of Labor’s new fiduciary rule.

In April 2016, the Department of Labor issued a regulation redefining who will be considered a fiduciary under ERISA and the tax code when providing investment advice in connection with retirement plans. The rule is slated to take effect beginning in 2017. The Legal Seminar panel that will discuss the rule includes Michael F. Consedine, former Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner now serving as Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, and Executive Director of Government Affairs at Transamerica; Scott Campion, a partner with Oliver Wyman LLC; and Phillip E. Stano, a partner with Sutherland Asbill & Brennan, LLP. Patrick D. Hughes, a partner with Faegre Baker Daniels, LLP, will serve as moderator. The panel will discuss the regulation’s impact on the insurance industry, compliance issues, regulatory enforcement, and litigation, as well as guaranty system implications and a comparison with the European Union.

Online registration for the Legal Seminar and the July 20 MPC meeting is available at the Legal Seminar website. NOLHGA has secured a room rate for this meeting of $269/night (single/double) at the Mayflower Hotel. Reservations can be made online through the Legal Seminar website or by contacting the hotel at 877.212.5752 and requesting the NOLHGA rate.
