Kentucky GA Seeks New Executive Director
After serving for 30 years, Tom Peterson, the current Executive Director of the Kentucky Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association, has announced his intention to retire this year. The association is seeking a well-qualified candidate to serve as its next Executive Director.
The association is a nonprofit, insurance industry–supported organization created and existing under KRS 304.42. The association’s statutory purpose is to protect Kentucky residents up to statutory limits against losses under their life, health, or annuity policies if their insurer becomes insolvent. The Executive Director is responsible for carrying out the duties of the association and reports directly to the association’s Board of Directors. The Executive Director will be responsible for maintaining appropriate resources necessary for the association to fulfill its statutory obligations. Ability to travel and effectively coordinate activities with other state guaranty associations through the National Organization of Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Associations is essential.
The candidate must possess insurance and management experience in an insurance company or a related setting, such as insurance regulatory, legal, statutory accounting, actuarial services, or other consulting services in the life, health, and annuity business sectors. A background in life or health insurer receiverships, especially with an insurance guaranty association, would be highly beneficial. Experience dealing with insurance regulators generally, or the Kentucky Department of Insurance specifically, would be helpful. Physical presence in Kentucky, or a willingness to relocate to Kentucky, would also be a positive factor. Experience using Excel spreadsheets would also be helpful.
The association would like to fill the Executive Director position by the third quarter of this year to allow training and an orderly transition from the retiring Executive Director.
