Annual Meeting Hotel Deadline Approaches
The hotel reservation deadline for NOLHGA's 2012 Annual Meeting, which will be held on October 2-3 at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort & Spa in San Antonio, is September 10. After that date, NOLHGA can no longer guarantee the discounted resort fee of $199/night plus tax (and a fee of $10 per day). If you have not yet made your reservations, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible.

On August 22, 2012, the California Department of Insurance approved the acquisition of New California/Aurora by Swiss Re Life and Health America. The transaction was completed, and closing took place on August 29. A portion of the proceeds from the sale (approximately $357 million) have been placed in escrow pending the conclusion of the Artemis litigation.

Bankers Fidelity Life Insurance Company, led by President and former NOLHGA Board Chairman Gene Choate, was recently named to the Ward's 50 list as one of the 50 top performing life and health insurers in America. In compiling the Ward's 50 list, the Ward Group "analyzes the financial performance of nearly 800 life-health companies domiciled in the United States and identifies the top performers in each segment," according to a release issued by the Ward Group. Each company's performance is analyzed over a 5-year period; the 2012 list is based on companies' performance from 2007-2011.The award cites Bankers Fidelity Life's "outstanding achievement in the areas of safety, consistency, and performance."
