Legal Seminar to Include Jury Assessment Techniques
Johanna Carrane and Christina Ouska, both senior trial consultants with Jury Scope, Inc., will provide 2014 Legal Seminar attendees with valuable perspective on the keys to effectively communicating with juries and how to strategically develop and present a persuasive, jury-friendly message. In their presentation, they will discuss how jurors may come to a courtroom with preconceived notions of the corporate defendant that may unfavorably slant the playing field in the plaintiff’s favor. They will also describe how understanding possible juror prejudices and learning to identify potentially biased jurors can help defense counsel ensure the burden of proof remains with the plaintiff.
NOLHGA’s 22nd Annual Legal Seminar will take place on July 17–18, 2014, at the New York Hilton Midtown. The seminar will be held in conjunction with an MPC meeting on July 15–16. NOLHGA has secured a room rate for these meetings of $259 (single)/$269 (double) per night plus tax, and reservations can be made through the meeting Web page.
The registration fee for the 2014 Legal Seminar is $850, with a $55 “early bird” discount on all registrations received by June 6; there is no fee to attend the MPC meeting, though some events may be restricted to guaranty association members only.

During the week of May 18, 2014, NOLHGA will distribute early access funds to the guaranty associations affected by the Booker T. Washington and Universal Life estates that agreed to early access. Distribution schedules were calculated based on the most current policy values and claims paid. Amounts distributed will total $1 million from the Booker T.
