Distribution Sent to GAs

Estate distribution payments totaling approximately $671,000 have been sent to the Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana guaranty associations. Other than a holdback to cover minor receivership closing activities (approximately $50,000), the payments represent final estate distributions.

American Educators was affiliated with Alabama Life (Ala.) and Consolidated National Life (Ind.) Insurance Companies and becomes the second estate of the group to close (Consolidated National closed in 1999).

Preliminary Agenda for Legal Seminar Approved

The preliminary agenda for NOLHGA's 11th Annual Legal Seminar, which will be held at the Drake Hotel in Chicago on August 15 and 16, was approved by the Legal Committee last week. The agenda features panel discussions on a number of topics, including the FDIC, optional federal chartering, long-term care, and variable products. The keynote luncheon speaker is scheduled to be Professor Richard A. Epstein of the University of Chicago's Law School.

The Legal Seminar Planning Committee (Jack Falkenbach [Chair], John Colpean, David Martin, Jim Mumford, Frank O'Loughlin, Noreen Parrett, Tad Rhodes, Charlie Richardson, and Mike Surguine) is continuing work on the agenda.
