John Hancock Agrees to Assume LTC Policy Block
On May 9, 2022, John Hancock Life Insurance Company entered into an agreement with Time Insurance Company, In Rehabilitation to directly assume a block of approximately 25,000 long-term care insurance policies from Time. This business has been 100% reinsured and administered by John Hancock since 2000. The assumption agreement was approved by the receivership court on May 31 and has an effective date of July 1. Notices will be sent to affected policyholders soon.

Hiram Tanaka, longtime Executive Director of the Hawaii Life & Disability Insurance Guaranty Association and a good friend to many in the guaranty community, passed away on May 14, 2022. He was 79 years old (click here for his obituary).
Before joining the Hawaii guaranty association, Hiram served in the United States Army, Ordnance Division as a Captain. He was also Deputy Insurance Commissioner for the State of Hawaii. NOLHGA expresses our deepest sympathies to his family for their loss.
