Legal Seminar Planning Begins

“The Path Forward in a Change Environment” is the theme for NOLHGA’s 25th Legal Seminar, which will be held on July 20–21, 2017, at the Ritz-Carlton, Chicago. An MPC meeting is scheduled for July 19.

The Legal Seminar Planning Committee held its kickoff teleconference on February 10 to begin developing an agenda for the seminar. Ideas for program content are welcome. This year’s Planning Committee is made up of Jack Falkenbach, Chair (Delaware); Joel Glover (Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie); Charles Gullickson (South Dakota); Catherine Masters (Schiff Hardin); Tad Rhodes (Oklahoma); Charles Richardson (Faegre Baker Daniels); Tom Sullivan (Iowa); and Susan Voss (American Enterprise Group).

NOLHGA has secured a room rate for this meeting of $265/night plus tax (single/double) at the Ritz-Carlton. April MPC Meeting Hotel Deadline Approaching

The deadline for reservations at the Brown Hotel, site of the April 2017 MPC meeting, is March 10. After that date, NOLHGA can no longer guarantee the special room rates of $179/night plus tax (Deluxe room, single or double), $199/night plus tax (Luxury room, single or double), and $219/night plus tax (Club room, single or double). These rates are available for reservations occurring three days before and three days after the meeting, depending on availability.

The April MPC meeting will be held in Louisville, Kentucky, on April 20–21. The preliminary schedule for the meeting is not confirmed, but we expect the meeting to run all day on April 20 and until noon on April 21. Attendees can register for the meeting and make online hotel reservations at the meeting website.

Missouri Appoints New Insurance Director

On February 14, 2017, Missouri Governor Eric Greitens appointed Chlora Lindley-Myers as the new head of the state’s Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration. Lindley-Myers previously worked for the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (where she received the NAIC’s Robert Dineen Award for Outstanding Service and Contribution to the State Regulation of Insurance), the Kentucky Department of Insurance, and the NAIC (as Director of its Consumer Protection and Anti-Fraud Division). She replaces former Insurance Director John Huff, who announced his resignation late last year.
