House Financial Services Oversight Plan Released

On February 13, 2007, the House Financial Services Committee, chaired by Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), released its Oversight Plan for the 110th Congress. Of note are the insurance issues outlined on pages 17-21, which include monitoring the guaranty system, the possible extension of Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) standards to the insurance industry, and the establishment of a "centralized insurance information resource center within the Federal government" to provide the equivalent of federal agency expertise. The plan can be accessed on the House Web site. NOLHGA will be following these issues as they develop.

NAIC Posts Preliminary Agenda for March 2007 National Meeting

Earlier this year, the NAIC announced a plan to streamline the format for its quarterly national meetings, beginning with the March 2007 meeting. According to the NAIC, the number of meetings held at each quarterly meeting will be reduced, and the schedule will be compacted into an abbreviated format with the event officially ending at 5:00 p.m. on Monday (the last day of every NAIC meeting).

As a result of the shift in format, many individual meeting schedules have changed. The tentative agenda for the March 2007 NAIC meeting has been posted on the NAIC Web site. Attendees are encouraged to confirm meeting schedules before finalizing travel arrangements.
