Company Overview

Senior American Insurance Company (SAIC) was a P&C company domiciled in Pennsylvania. SAIC and its affiliate, AF&L, have been operating in supervised runoff and have written no new business since 2005. Liquidation petitions for both companies were filed in the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania in April 2018 but were stayed. In June of 2019, SAIC consented to liquidation. On July 31, 2019, the Pennsylvania Insurance Department filed an amended Petition of Liquidation, including as an attachment the proposed consent order. The Order of Liquidation was entered by the Court on August 15, 2019, with an effective date of September 3, 2019.

Prior to SAIC being put into liquidation, AF&L had been administering all SAIC business. For continuity, the task force arranged for AF&L to continue servicing the SAIC policies on behalf of the affected guaranty associations on an interim basis, until a more permanent solution could be implemented. As of July 1, 2020, administration of SAIC business on behalf of the affected guaranty associations was transferred to Disability Insurance Specialists, LLC. Two years later, the policy administration operations of Disability Insurance Specialists, LLC were transferred and merged with Davies Life and Health. Administration of the SAIC business on behalf of affected guaranty associations was transferred to Davies Life and Health effective July 1, 2022.
