National States, a Missouri domestic, was licensed in 37 states and wrote life, accident and health, long-term care (LTC) and Medicare Supplement policies. On April 1, 2010, the company was placed into Rehabilitation based on hazardous conditions. The Board of Directors of National States consented to the rehabilitation order. Missouri Director of Insurance, John Huff, was appointed receiver.
On October 8, 2010, the court entered an order approving an assumption agreement of all Medicare Supplement business effective September 1, 2010, with Oxford Life/North American Life and reducing agents' commissions by 25%. On November 15, 2010, the court entered an order of liquidation against National States and approved a Service Agreement and an Early Access Agreement between the liquidator and NOLHGA. The deadline for filing proofs of claim with the liquidator is November 15, 2011.
On February 16, 2012, an assumption agreement with Family Life Insurance Company closed. The transaction transfers all of National States in-force life business to Family Life effective October 1, 2011.
